PhD Application and Admission

The UNM College of Population Health PhD Program considers each applicant through a holistic lens, taking into considerations both academic and experiential qualities. Carefully review the admission and application requirements prior to applying.

*You are encouraged to meet with an advisor (cophadvising@unm.edu) prior to submitting your application to ensure it is complete.

 Zulassungsvoraussetzungen: 

1. Applicants must hold a graduate degree from an accredited institution.
2. Dokumentierte Erfahrung in Form von Forschung, Berufserfahrung, Abschluss einer Masterarbeit und/oder anderer ähnlicher Erfahrungen, einschließlich der Arbeit in Nichtregierungsorganisationen (NGOs).
3. Eine Abschlussarbeit in Statistik oder Biostatistik mit einem Notendurchschnitt von 3.0 oder höher.
4. Two- to three-page Statement of Purpose and Objectives describing professional experience, research interests, career aspirations, and experiences that have prepared the applicant for doctoral work.
5. Three letters of recommendation. All must be from professional and/or academic contacts.
6. Writing sample such as a thesis or professional paper during their master’s coursework, published paper, policy brief or a completed, comparable extended project or publication in which the applicant was the first or sole author (not to exceed 10 pages).

 Bewerbungsvoraussetzungen:

• All transcripts (domestic and international) müssen eingereicht werden through the SOPHAS application system. 
  • International transcripts muss ausgewertet werden by World Education Services (WES).
  • Ensure that your Statement of Purpose and Objectives is a complete two to three-pages in length describing professional experience, research interests, career aspirations and experiences that have prepared the applicant for doctoral work.
  • Include your updated CV or resume.
  • Please ensure that individuals submitting letters of recommendation can speak to your professional/academic experience.
  • Submit a complete application in the SOPHAS system.

  Applications that are incomplete and have not been verified through the SOPHAS system by the Januar 4 deadline will not be reviewed or considered for admission.

   

  *The PhD program has a two-step admission application process.*

  1. Apply through SOPHAS to be accepted to PhD.

  2. Apply to be accepted to UNM.

  Do not submit a UNM Graduate Application bis you have received a letter of acceptance from the program.

   Verification of SOPHAS application: 

   Applicants should check their SOPHAS notifications and application statuses frequently. You’ll receive important notifications and critical alerts throughout the process. Applicants are responsible for monitoring these notifications and taking any required actions.

  Once all your required application materials are received by SOPHAS, your application status changes to 'Complete,' and it is placed in line for verification. SOPHAS averages 2-4 weeks for verifying submitted applications. Once your application is verified, you will receive a notification, and your application status will be updated to 'Verified'.

   *NOTE: The departmental admissions committee will not begin reviewing any application until it has reached Verified status. All applications must be in verified status by the application deadline.

  SOPHAS Transcripts Information:

   All degree and non-degree transcripts must be submitted through the SOPHAS system for your application to be considered. If SOPHAS identifies any missing transcripts, the applicant will be placed in Undelivered status and notified accordingly. It is essential that the admissions committee has access to all academic transcripts to conduct a comprehensive review.
